The Edmonton band that would become White Wolf paid their dues for many years on the club circuit: initially under the handle of Farmer, then Slamm, with a change to Warrior in 1981. By 1983 they took a risk and borrowed a large amount of money from their bassist's parents to create a high-end demo to shop for a deal.

That demo made its way to RCA in New York, and the band got the recording contract they had so long wanted and needed. After pulling together what they felt was a superior selection of songs, earmarked for their debut album, they started to feel that the name Warrior didn't represent their sound and the change was then made to White Wolf. Released at the end of 1984, "Standing Alone" received a good amount of airplay in Canada and in certain places in the US like Cleveland, Philadelphia, and New York.
