The album arrived after a three-year hiatus from releasing music, announced in October 2025 with a cryptic social media post. Lead single "Pixelated Kisses" was released on October 14, 2025, followed by singles "If It Only Gets Better," "Past Won't Leave My Bed," "Love You Less," and "Last of a Dying Breed." A remix of "Pixelated Kisses" featuring Yeat was released in December 2025. During the album cycle, Joji notably used model and actor Robert Birdsall as a look-alike for interviews, press releases, and music videos.

Piss in the Wind received generally favorable reviews from critics. James Mellen of Clash called it "potentially the most authentic Joji project to date," praising tracks like "Pixelated Kisses" for its melancholy and "Can't See Sh*t in the Club" for its piano sound, though noting some ideas felt "half-realized."
